MP Materials owns and operates a rare earth mine in California called Mountain Pass. Rare earth elements are metals used in magnets and electronics, particularly in products like electric vehicle motors and wind turbines. The company also makes magnetic materials and components from these rare earth elements. It is the only significant rare earth mining operation in the United States.
