About VeriSign, Inc.
VeriSign runs the master directory for .com and .net domain names, which are the internet addresses people type into their browser to visit websites. When you register a website ending in .com or .net, VeriSign maintains the records that tell the internet where to find that site. The company also operates some of the thirteen root servers that guide all internet traffic to the right place, making them a critical piece of the internet's basic infrastructure. They also manage domain registries for .edu, .name, and .cc domains.
