Telesat operates satellites that deliver communications services across North America, Europe, Asia, Africa, and other regions. The company rents satellite capacity to television broadcasters for direct-to-home TV and video distribution, to telecommunications companies for phone and internet service, and to government and enterprise customers who need reliable communications in remote areas like oil rigs and ships. Telesat owns two types of satellites: traditional ones in fixed positions high above the Earth, and newer ones in lower orbits that it is developing for broadband internet service.
