Edison International generates and distributes electricity to homes, businesses, and farms across a large area of southern, central, and coastal California. The company operates the power lines and equipment that bring electricity from power plants to customers' homes and buildings. It serves roughly 50,000 square miles and maintains thousands of miles of power lines, both above and below ground, along with hundreds of substations that manage the flow of electricity. Edison International has been in the electricity business since 1886.
