Assured Guaranty sells insurance that protects investors and bond holders if the organizations behind those bonds fail to pay. The company insures municipal bonds (which fund public projects like roads and schools), mortgages bundled together as securities, and other structured finance products. They operate in the United States and internationally and also provide asset management services. Essentially, they bet that borrowers will pay back what they owe, and they collect fees for taking on that risk.
